Welcome to Single Mothers United! SMU is a Virginia based, 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization that strives to provide spiritual, emotional, and professional support in order to encourage, equip, and empower single mothers of all walks of life.

SMU provides support to single mothers worldwide through our facebook group, and currently provides in-person motivation and support to single mothers local to Northern Virginia through monthly meetings. Topics of discussion vary from health and wellness to credit repair and budgeting. We also make time to get together for fun family activities. Children are welcome at all of our meetings and dinner and childcare are always provided. Please take a look at our calendar of events or visit our community Facebook page for more information.

We are currently in the process of expanding throughout Virginia, and to other states across the nation. If you’re a single mother, we would love to have you join us.

Please feel free to reach out if you’d like more information about our Northern Virginia meetings, our resources and partners, and/or our online support group. We welcome all single mothers to become members and love “doing life” together.

If you’re interested in supporting Single Mothers United or setting up local meetings in your area, please contact us to discuss how you or your organization/business can be involved.

“My time with these ladies has redirected any self pity I had towards uplifting other women. I spent 8 years of my life trapped in a violent relationship, I was ashamed and isolated. When the Lord set me free I came to my friend Andria, she was my safe place for a long time. Then I began to remember who I was, this group has given me an outlet to uplift and encourage. I believe in sowing when we are desolate, I believe that when we are sad we sow joy, when we are lonely we sow good company. This group has brought women together that are above all, hopeful. We desire to be the light and when we get together we laugh, we cry and we build. The children have their own group and their own relationships with each other. We are blessed with a beautiful woman overseeing their activities and they have big fun. These ladies will be friends for as long as there is life in me.”

“Single Mothers United has been a huge blessing in so many ways to my children and I. I found out about the group in a local mother’s group on Facebook. Since I’ve joined, I have met other single mothers who have been such a huge encouragement and positive addition to me as a person. Knowing I’m never alone in my struggles and tests as a single mom to six kids is a really wonderful thing. SMU has blessed me and my children with school supplies and holiday dinners. I cannot express how dear this organization is to my heart. I cherish them and the other mothers who are wonderful friends of mine and hope to one day be able to give the way I have been given to.”

“Feeling totally lost and broken after my marriage ended and a single mother of 3, I knew I needed help in finding the strength to support my babies. I began researching support groups on FB and SMU was the first group that appeared to me. I was embarrassed at first that “this” had happened to me…to my family. When my kids and I attended our first meeting the release of pain/sadness, the love for my children like we were all family was so AMAZING. I began to realize my self worth again. I learned couponing lol, steps to better myself, forgiveness, and knowing I wasn’t alone in this. Your friends will always be there for you but to have a group of spiritual women that REALLY understand what your going through and how you feel truly helps a lot. I’m grateful for these ladies.”
